The online dictionary Terminologia dels drets humans (‘Terminology of human rights’) gathers 155 terms related to the field of human rights. The present dictionary contains the most relevant civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights, as well as collective rights and fundamental freedoms of people. It also includes the most serious violations of human rights. Each terminological entry contains the preferred denomination in Catalan and the corresponding synonyms, if any; equivalents in Spanish, French and English; a definition in Catalan, and explanatory notes when necessary.
Human rights and fundamental freedoms are subject of protection of international law and internal law in democratic states. They constitute as well a focus of interest of international actors and humanitarian actors, who work for their promotion and protection, and report the situations where these rights are violated, which are often connected with armed conflicts, forced migrations or certain political regimes. It is for that reason that it has been deemed convenient to publish the basic terminology of this field. In turn, this terminology is part of a wider dictionary on international relations.
Clicking on "Consulta de termes" (‘Term search’), terms can be looked up in two ways: using the alphabetical indexes (there is a different index for each language) or making simple or advanced searches in the upper space "Text de la consulta" (‘Text search’) in any of the dictionary languages.
