The Terminologia dels drets de l’infant ('Terminology of the rights of the child') contains 48 terms related to the rights listed in the 1989 Child Rights Convention. This terminology brings together the main civil, social, cultural and collective rights of children, as well as the freedoms of children and the principles that protect children. Each terminological entry  includes the designation in Catalan, a definition, equivalents in Spanish, English and French and, and explanatory notes when deemed necessary.

In order to collect the key concepts used in the Convention, the terms in Catalan and the equivalents in each language have been created or adapted from the text of the Convention, as well as from related terminological compilations and explanatory documents. Also, the definitions that accompany these terms are not terminological, but contain a summary of the most important points of the articles of the Convention that correspond to each term.

Childrens' rights are human rights and, therefore, they are subject of protection of international law and the domestic law of democratic states. They constitute as well a focus of interest of international actors and humanitarian actors, who work for their promotion and protection, and report the situations where these rights are violated, which are often connected with armed conflicts, forced migrations or certain political regimes. It is for that reason that it has been deemed convenient to publish the basic terminology of this field.

Clicking on "Consulta de termes" (‘Term search’), terms can be looked up in two ways: using the alphabetical indexes (there is a different index for each language) or making simple or advanced searches in the upper space "Text de la consulta" (‘Text search’) in any of the dictionary languages.
